Last Hurrah

Well, it has finally come to an end.  We're in Rochester, Chris started orientation for residency this week, and once my parents leave on Monday it's time to start real life again (more on all that to come).  But oh, those blessed last days of being homeless in Virginia...we moved in with Mom and Dad Bailey (and Aunt Lindsey!) for two and half weeks.   Can I just say how much I love my in-laws?  They let us pile all of our possessions in their garage while they shared their home and let us invade their lives.  No cruise ship, no French Riviera, and yet this was a true vacation.  No school or work, no callings, no cooking, no cleaning...just spending as much time as possible with people I love.  Amazing.  Cue highlight reel:

Chris sorted through many packed away treasures at his folks' house and unearthed several fun things, including a J-sized backpack from his childhood.  Adorable.
 So much playtime with Daddy.

Watching planes while swimming?  It doesn't get much better than this for my little guy.

Chris and I also went downtown for a day of sight seeing.  My back was making me regret it the next day, but we had a blast.  There was an exhibit about slavery at Monticello at the American History Smithsonian.  We spent a lot of time there.  Then we realized that we just spent 4 years in Charlottesville, and then went to D.C. to learn a little more about Mr. Jefferson, when there were so many other things we didn't get to see.  Funny how that works.  Though you won't see this at Monticello: a sign with the name of every slave Jefferson ever owned.
Michelle Obama's inaugural ball gown.
Couldn't miss the opportunity to document the best wedgie in all of D.C.
The future surgeon with a display of surgical instruments designed and used by Dr. Cushing, a famous physician for whom Cushing's syndrome is named.  Pretty cool, huh?
Such a classic horrible tourist photo.  We'll stare into the sun as long as it takes to prove we made it to the national mall.
We went to Great Falls with our great friends, the Glass family!  Thanks, Dad Bailey, for being our rock climbing guide!  The middle Glass boy is a strong and adventurous little fellow!

Grandma Bailey, being the amazing grandma that she is, took J to the coolest park I've ever seen.

 Chatting it up with Gram.
Thanks, Virginia, for a great 4 years.  Now, on to the chilly north!
