Last Week...

...was awesome.

Since last June, our life has been month in Roanoke~month in Stuart(where is Stuart, you might ask?  Exactly.)~2 months of surgery~belly is growing~borrow a crib~buy a stroller 'n stuff~belly is still growing and now doing somersaults~month in Roanoke until two weeks before due date~shelf exam shelf exam shelf exam~birth of baby, and the crazy-wonderful-sleepless-how-did-we-get-so-lucky-ness~internal medicine~peds~super expensive licensing exam in Philadelphia~another exam in Falls Church...and then, we made it to last week.  It felt like coming up for air after that timed swim I had to do to become a lifeguard in high school.  And I'm not exactly a strong swimmer, people.

Besides all he boring catch up on life stuff, we did get to have some fun, too!  For starters, we had Baby's First Campout at Sherando Lake.  It was definitely a success.  J slept better than we did!

J really liked hanging out in his play yard just checking out the trees.
We also went on Baby's First Hike.
Then we headed up to Herndon on Tuesday to spend the day with Chris's fam (and do mountains of laundry.  The joys of having family close when you're still living the starving student life!).
Haven't mastered the "smile for the camera" trick, but he's still pretty super to me.

Those sly Baileys took advantage of the opportunity to have a little birthday surprise waiting for me!  It was almost 2 weeks early, so I was definitely surprised.

There were balloons, delicious dinner complete with Boston Market macaroni and cheese (my all-time favorite food), and delightful presents.
Chris and Linds celebrated with the best Jenga tower of all time.
I felt so special that I decided to roast myself a baby over ice cream cake (didn't realize until after the photo was taken that it appears that I'm lighting J on fire - he was definitely a safe distance from the birthday candles)

Thanks so much, family-in-law!

I got to go running almost every day, Chris and J got to snuggle and play, we went to the bay...watched movies, went to the farmer's market, and just enjoyed the chance to be together sans med school or work or any other distractions.  Ahhh, just what this little family needed.
He's started grasping toy, so fun!
And I may or may not have a particular preference, but J does seem to genuinely like Mikel-the-Bear.

Loved this post! That last picture of J is the best. You should blow it up and frame it for his nursery for reals. Happy birthday Rach! I wish I could have been there to celebrate with you! (and not just for the ice cream cake either... okay, so mostly for the ice cream cake.) I love you.

Fun fun fun. Loved the pictures and the commentary. You guys have such a cute baby. Little J's grandparents must be so proud! (something tells me they are)
