Not so sassoon

I don't know how to style hair, mine in particular. This has dawned on me especially as my hair is getting longer and progressively less manageable. Somehow, despite growing up with two older sisters, being a cheerleader for 6 years, and having a handful of roommates, this basic feminine skill has escaped me.

No French twists or French braids or anything French at all. I don't think I could even manage a topsy tail, if those were still in fashion.

My list of hair can-do's is as follows:

blow dry
pig tails
messy bun-like thing
pony tail
head band
curled hair (with my mom's old curlers or a slowly breaking curling iron)

Maybe that's part of why I have usually kept my hair shorter and thus easier to ignore. It also doesn't help that I am generally too cheap to get a decent haircut.

I have decided (completely on a whim, of course--not that I actually spend any time thinking about my hair, which is obviously part of the problem) it's time to make at least a small effort to improve this situation. My goal is to actually use the round brush I own at least once a week. And learn how to do one new cool thing with my hair per month.

So if you have any suggestions, I'm all ears. Or hairs.

oh, rach! i feel your pain. i am so untalented when it comes to doing my hair. i can do everything you can do, except use curlers & a curling iron (my hair always ends up looking dented instead of curly when i try to use either), but i have finally mastered the art of the round brush. it took me a while, but i can dry my hair with a round brush to flip my hair in and out! just practice. it'll come after a while. :)

try getting a crimper- that could at least expand your options.

round brush- good idea, there are a variety of sizes.

just take a quick trip to sally beauty supply to give you some ideas.

I definitely empathize. You've got my list, except take out curled hair, head band, and pig tails. :) Maybe even the blow dry--I haven't done that in a while (maybe that's why I sometimes come to the end of the day and still have wet hair). Oh, but my list would also have straight hair (which usually ends up in a pony tail or messy bun within a few hours--oh, well). :)

Good luck. I think it's great that you're trying to branch out! :)

Your post inspired me to try and use a round brush on my hair today. It took a lot longer, but it did look a little better.

Good luck and let me know if you figure anything out! I could use some tips!

P.S. I always think your hair looks fantastic!

I think you should let your husband grow out a 10 inch mullet. Then he could donate it to locks of love and they could make a wig for you. Then you would never have to do you hair again. I mean you would have to tell them you are a cancer patient, but we can cross that bridge when we come to it.
