I have now been a wife for 186 days. Amazing! People say that children should come with instruction manuals...every so often, I wonder if husbands should too. Or maybe what I really mean is I should have written a manual for Chris. Let's just say that when I laughed when my brother in law called my sister "borderline stable" on the video we made for my sister's bridal shower, I should have recognized it as a genetically-linked trait.
At any rate, I have observed a few curious phenomena since I have become a wedded woman. First, it's interesting how many people give you verbal or insinuated expectations about what you are supposed to be as a new wife.
"So, what did you make for dinner last night?"
"Don't you just love baking?"
"What? You don't know how to sew? And you just got married?"
"When are you gonna start poppin em out?"
"Oh, you haven't finished moving and decorating the apartment, huh..."
"I'm saving up for a new pie cloth...what about you?"
Usually, I'm not really offended. It just reminds me not to do the same thing to other people. That is, I ought to refrain from implying that other people should be meeting expectations that I have set instead of their own. And expectations are overrated anyway. I'm just enjoying living with the greatest roommate ever. We'll be poppin em out when the time is right, thank you very much.
